Discovering the Walking Tour Heritage Trees
Since 2018, the walking tour heritage trees has been extended to Monte Carlo, Fontvieille and Monaco-Ville.
Monaco's Heritage Trees are indentified according to three criteria :
Biological: Based on calculations of tree's circumference taking into account the life expectancy for the oldest species, except Arecaceae (palms) which function differently and for which the height of the trunk is taken into account in performing the calculations.
Botanical: Based on the rarity of the species and its number in the area ;
Social / Environmental: Based on the tree's origin and history, and the role it plays in the representativeness of a site.
More than a thousand trees have been granted heritage tree status.
They have been identified, mapped, and marked with a plaque giving various points of information. Special provision has been made for treatments and any relocations.
